What's so special about a Fine Art Lamp shade?
There are two significant differences about a Life Shade lampshade; first, we start with a fine art print (a giclée print) and, second, the print medium is a special, long lasting, translucent material called "backlit" - when the light is off, the lampshade is a fine art print - turn the light on and the print is transformed by the backlighting effect. It is what we term "art in a new light".
Why is there such a price difference between products?
In a word, Labor. Depending upon the type of lampshade (conica/roundl vs square/rectangle) there is a big difference in labor costs - aligning the artwork on the lampshade frame without distorting the image can be a bit tricky. All of the remaining elements (e.g., quality of print, print medium, etc.) are exactly the same. Additionally, all of our lampshades undergo strict quality assurance review so they will arrive in perfect condition. And, all of our lampshades are printed and made in the USA.
Why Life Shade?
We started Life Shade in 2005 with the concept of producing customized photographic lampshades. We quickly moved into making Fine Art Lampshades from artwork licensed from our artist friends. As a matter of fact, Life Shade invented the Fine Art Lampshade. Each lampshade is made from a single piece so there is only one seam - many of our images "wrap" around the lampshade - a design feature we're proud to say we pioneered. We're constantly adding new artwork, lampshade styles, sizes, and lamp bases to our galleries - sign up for our Life Shade News subscription form here to stay abreast of what we're up to.
