What is a Luminaire?
A luminaire is a round glass vase with a fine art print fitted around the outside of the vase. The intended use is with a votive candle or an led to "backlight" the print to emit a soft, warm glow. Like our lampshades, the print on the Luminaire is also a giclée print onto a special, long lasting, translucent material called "backlit" - when the light is off, the lampshade is a fine art print - turn the light on and the print is transformed by the backlighting effect. It is what we term "art in a new light". And, our luminaires (lampshades, too) are printed and made in the USA.

Can I use my own photos on the Luminaire?
Absolutely. Send an email to sales@lifeshade.com with the image(s) you would like printed and we'll respond accordingly. Three images works great on the luminaire but we can also make panoramic designs, a collage, or portrait style cropping. Pricing for Custom Luminaires is located under the Custom Products pull down menu or simply click here.
Why Life Shade?
We started Life Shade in 2005 with the concept of producing customized photographic lampshades. We quickly moved into making Fine Art Lampshades from artwork licensed from our artist friends. As a matter of fact, Life Shade invented the Fine Art Lampshade. Each lampshade is made from a single piece so there is only one seam - many of our images "wrap" around the lampshade - a design feature we're proud to say we pioneered. We're constantly adding new products, artwork, lampshade styles, sizes, and lamp bases to our galleries - sign up for our Life Shade News subscription form here to stay abreast of what we're up to.
